KAPP Delivers CO₂ Liquid Ice Machine to Ný-Fiskur in Sandgerði

We are excited to announce the recent delivery of a groundbreaking CO2 liquid ice machine to Ný-Fiskur in Sandgerði. This state-of-the-art machine represents a significant leap forward in sustainable cooling technology for the seafood industry.

A Step Towards Sustainability

The new machine is powered by a CO2 coolant, which boasts a Global Warming Potential (GWP) index of just 1 GWP/kg. This is a remarkable improvement compared to traditional liquid ice machines that rely on freon-powered coolants, which have a GWP index of 1,400 GWP/kg. By choosing a CO2-powered system, Ný-Fiskur is taking a meaningful step toward reducing their carbon footprint while maintaining high standards of efficiency and performance.

Energy Efficiency and High Performance

In addition to its environmental benefits, the CO2 liquid ice machine is also highly energy-efficient. It requires 20% fewer kilowatt-hours (kWh) than its freon-based counterparts, making it both a cost-effective and eco-friendly choice. Despite its lower energy consumption, the machine delivers the same maximum efficiency and rapid cooling speeds that our OptimICE® customers have come to expect.

Designed and Built in Iceland

This revolutionary machine was designed, developed, and built at KAPP's facilities in Kópavogur. We are proud to contribute to the advancement of sustainable technology within the seafood industry, right here in Iceland. The CO2 liquid ice machine is a testament to our commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.

KAPP to Exhibit at Seafood Processing Global 2026 in Barcelona

KAPP will exhibit at Seafood Processing Global 2026, taking place 21–23 April 2026 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain. Seafood Processing Global is held alongside Seafood Expo Global, and the 2026 edition has been announced as the largest in the event’s history.

At the event, KAPP will present its broad portfolio of chilling, freezing, and processing solutions for the seafood industry. KAPP’s positioning centers on “Chilling, Freezing and Processing” and on helping customers maximize product quality, increase yield, and improve overall efficiency through advanced refrigeration and food processing solutions.

Visitors to the KAPP booth will learn more about a range of technologies for onboard and onshore seafood operations, as well as for aquaculture applications. These include OptimICE® liquid slurry ice systems, IQF Tunnel Freezers, Non-Pressure Plate Freezers, RoteX solutions, tub handling systems, ValuePump®, and other food processing technologies in the KAPP portfolio.

OptimICE® is designed to rapidly cool fish and maintain a stable, low temperature throughout the cold chain, helping preserve freshness and quality. KAPP’s freezing and processing portfolio also includes systems developed to improve yield, support gentle product handling, and enhance operational efficiency across seafood processing environments.

Seafood Processing Global brings together equipment, packaging, and service suppliers from across the international seafood sector, while the broader event attracts seafood professionals from around the world. For KAPP, the show is an important opportunity to meet customers, partners, and industry professionals in one place and discuss practical solutions for today’s processing challenges.

We look forward to meeting visitors at Booth 3BB401-E in Barcelona and discussing how KAPP can support stronger product quality, better yield, and more efficient operations across the cold chain.
